Former Hunterdon County Assistant Prosecutor Kelly Daniels has been appointed as the New Jersey Department of Corrections (NJDOC)’s assistant commissioner of the Special Investigations Division, a new role in a division that supervises the NJDOC’s criminal and administrative investigations.

Her appointment was made by Acting Corrections Commissioner Victoria Kuhn, who was recently nominated by Gov. Phil Murphy to lead her department after serving in an acting capacity for more than six months.

“We are fortunate to welcome Ms. Daniels to our ranks,” Kuhn said in a statement. “Ms. Daniels has significant experience to help both shape the department’s cultural shift and overall mission, as a prosecutor and investigator into the abuses at Edna Mahan Correctional Facility for Women.”

With the creation of the role, the NJDOC will now have better capacity to conduct its own internal probes, rather than relying on outside counsel or the office of the attorney general.
