Isherwood moving to State Treasurer’s office

Darryl Isherwood, a former reporter and PolitickerNJ editor, will serve as communications director for the New Jersey Department of the Treasury, State Treasurer Elizabeth Muoio announced today.

Isherwood joined the Murphy administration in 2019 as a senior advisor for economic development communications in the governor’s office, and then moved to the Economic Development Authority in one year ago as the head of the film and digital media team.

“I am thrilled that someone with Darryl’s experience will be leading our dynamic communications office as we enter the FY 2024 budget season,” said  Muoio.  “We worked closely with Darryl when he was in the Governor’s Office, and his knowledge of the budget process, together with his relationships with the state press corps and his ability to communicate complex issues, will be a huge asset moving forward.”

Before joining PolitickerNJ in 2010, he was a reporter for the Star-Ledger and Trenton Times.  Isherwood also worked at Mercury, one of the state’s top public affairs firms.   His late father, James Isherwood, served as deputy mayor of Livingston in the 1970s.

NJEDA CEO Tim Sullivan praised Isherwood’s tenure at the agency.

“I have mixed emotions about his departure from Team EDA as he’s been such a huge part of the state’s success in film and television under Gov. Murphy’s leadership, but getting the chance to work with Treasurer Muoio and her great team is a hard opportunity to pass up,” Sullivan said.

Isherwood replaces Jennifer Sciortino, who has moved to the governor’s office as a senior advior to Murphy.
