Tabernacle teacher up for $1 million award

By Nikita Biryukov, March 25 2020 11:53 am

A New Jersey teacher is up for a $1 million award from the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization.

Michael Dunlea, a Tabernacle Elementary School teacher, is one of five American educators to make the final 50 for the Varkey Foundation Global Teacher Prize 2020.

“Every child in the world deserves an inspiring teacher and inspiring teachers deserve wide social recognition. As we enter what must be a “decade of action” on education we have partnered with the Global Teacher Prize because it is such a powerful advocate for the critical role teachers play in our societies,” UNESCO Assistant Director General for Education Stefania Giannini said. “Now, more than ever, in a world of competing priorities, governments throughout the world must invest in teachers to meet their commitments to deliver universal quality education by 2030.”
