Gov.-elect Mikie Sherrill will nominate Rosalie Johnson, a former top official at the Colorado Department of Motor Vehicles, as chief administrator of the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission.
As deputy senior director of the Colorado DMV, Johnson led an effort that enabled 97% of drivers to obtain their Real IDs, an issue that has plagued New Jersey.
During the gubernatorial campaign, Sherrill hinted that she would not retain the current MVC administrator, Latrecia Littles Floyd, by sharply criticizing the agency’s management.
“I promised a different kind of leadership in Trenton, focused on results, and I am so excited to welcome Rosalie Johnson to the Garden State to help save New Jerseyans time and money at the MVC. Right now, it’s just too hard for New Jerseyans to get what they need from the Motor Vehicle Commission, whether that’s a REAL ID appointment, a vehicle inspection, or a business license for an auto body shop,” Sherrill said. “Rosalie brings a wide breadth of experience in streamlining motor vehicle agency operations, improving roadway safety, and ID distribution that will help ensure New Jerseyans can get what they need from the MVC while keeping our roadways safe.”
The Sherrill -Caldwell Transition Team said that Johnson led Colorado to a reduction of the average wait time from 45 minutes.
Johnson spent over nine years at the Colorado DMV, starting out as an operations manager. She also held management positions at Walgreens and Amazon. She is currently a fellow at the Institute for Responsive Government.
