Newark City Councilman Anibal Ramos raised more than $75,000 last week at a fundraiser for his 2022 re-election campaign.

The funds could be used to run for mayor, if incumbent Ras Baraka decides not to seek re-election to a third term.

Ramos was re-elected to a fourth term in May with 80% of the vote.

“All of our supporters believe in the potential of Newark and they feel the right team is in place to make that potential a reality,” Ramos said. “The City Council is working as a team to continue moving the city forward.”

The fundraiser was hosted by Ramon River of Scarinci Hollenbeck and Mo Butler of Mercury Public Affairs.  Attendees included Essex County Executive Joseph DiVincenzo, Sheriff Armando Fontoura, Senate President Pro-Tempore Teresa Ruiz, and the newly-elected Mayor of Belleville, Michael Melham.
