It looks like some games are being played in the race for Morris County Republican Chairman.

While an official notice to county committee about the date and location of the June 12 reorganization meeting has not yet been sent out, GOP county committee members in Chatham Township received an early heads up when councilman Len Resto sent out an e-mail on May 15 on behalf of outgoing county chair Patti Page announcing that the reorganization meeting will take place at 7:15 PM at the Birchwood Manor in Whippany.

There is no word as to which towns received the e-mail, but the New Jersey Globe has confirmed that many towns have not heard, and that several elected officials have not been advised.

Page used the e-mail notice to announce her “strong endorsement” of Ron DeFilippis for county chairman.  DeFilippis faces Rob Zwigard in the race to succeed page.

“Finger foods and soft drinks will be served,” Page wrote.  “There will also be a cash bar.”

The New Jersey Globe has been unable to confirm whether Page actually wrote the e-mail that went out under her name.

Sources say that Page has asked retired Superior Court Judge Stephan Hansbury to run the election.   This decision is expected to face a fierce challenge from some party leaders.

Hansbury did not respond to an e-mail sent at 6:19 PM on June 1.

  1. The email from Resto is from May 15, yet nobody else seems to know where the convention will be. Heck, if you visit https://www.morrisgop.org/calendar (they paid the bill last night) as of 9:30am Sunday, there is no event on June 12. NO EVENT FOR THE NIGHT THEY ARE REQUIRED TO HOLD THE CONVENTION!!! Also on their website, they are still advertising the Greg Gutfeld event from four months ago. Maybe they haven’t given up on that one yet. Finally, on the home page right now is the letter “signed” by Patti Page from May 29. That’s really the best signature they could copy and paste? I honestly don’t understand how people like Len Resto and others are satisfied with the obvious incompetence displayed by MCRC right now, and how more of the same will help Republicans win future elections. Rob is the only choice right now, but where the heck is the convention going to be????

  2. Under governing law (Title 19 of NJ Statutes), municipal committees meet and reorganize on the first Monday (June 11 this year) after the primary and the county committee meets and reorganizes on the first Tuesday (June 12 this year) after the primary.
If Rob Zwigard doesn’t know that, he’s too ignorant or stupid to be Chair.
Page and the Morris GOP are not hiding the ball, because there’s no ball to hide — the statute directs when the County GOP reorg meeting occurs.
If Zwigard still doesn’t have a clue about when the reorg meeting will be held, then he should just ask his buddy, former Chair John Sette, who would hold the County reorg meeting on that first Tuesday after the primary.

A “fierce challenge”? Why? Because Judge Hansbury won’t allow Rob Zwigard and his crew to thug and strong-arm the meeting?
That Zwigard would object only proves why Hansbury is absolutely necessary, and maybe why independent election-law counsel and a few independent peace officers are needed at the meeting too.

  4. So, the Matrangelo / Zwigard followers believe the chairperson should notify those who have not even been elected yet? Could it be that Morris County is just used to Sette’s culture of cronyism, to think that we know who will actually occupy each seat. Has the game really be that rigged for that long?
