U.S. Senator Bob Menendez will appear at a fundraiser next month in support of Hudson County Executive Tom DeGise’s 2019 re-election campaign.
The invitation to the DeGise kickoff says that “Senator Menendez is appearing at this event only as a featured speaker/special guest” and that “Senator Menendez is not asking for funds or donations.” The language infers that this is not a formal endorsement — at least not at this moment — although Menendez’s mere appearance at the May 3 event is a huge get for DeGise.
DeGise faces a fight for the Democratic nomination for another term now after four mayors — Jersey City Mayor Steve Fulop, Union City Mayor/State Sen. Brian Stack, Hoboken Mayor Ravi Bhalla — announced last month that they would not support his re-election.
