The law firm of Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin is expected to be named city attorney for Long Branch on Sunday when John Pallone takes office as the new mayor.

The hiring of the Coughlin firm by the new mayor enhances the relationship between the Assembly Speaker, who has two seats on the congressional redistricting commission, and the brother of the incoming mayor, Rep. Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch), who represents a large part of Middlesex County in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Louis Rainone, a partner at Rainone Coughlin Minchello, had been the law partner of Assembly Speaker Alan Karcher and has held legal positions in more than a dozen municipalities.  He will replace James Aaron.

Pallone defeated Adam Schneider in the May mayoral election.  Schneider will depart office on Sunday after 28 years in office.
