Trenton – Senate President Steve Sweeney, Senator Loretta Weinberg and Senator Paul Sarlo issued the following statements today following the announcement that Senator Bob Gordon is retiring:

“As a senator representing the 38th Legislative District, Bob Gordon has been a tireless advocate for his district, for improving the state’s infrastructure and for expanding job opportunities and economic growth,” said Senator Sweeney.

“Whether advocating for reforms within the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey, fighting for Jersey commuters as a new midtown bus terminal is planned, or holding NJ Transit’s feet to the fire, Bob was at the forefront. He will be sorely missed in the Senate,” said Sweeney.

“I first want to thank Bob Gordon for his service to the people of New Jersey. He has been a dedicated advocate for all our state’s residents, not just those living in the 38thLegislative District,” said Senator Weinberg (D-Bergen). “On a personal level, I will miss his leadership on the Transportation Committee, his steadfast commitment to bring reforms to the Port Authority of New York and New Jersey and to NJ Transit. Bob never lost focus on what had to be done to improve our state’s infrastructure. “He has been a valued colleague and a good friend. I wish him well.”

“Senator Gordon has served with distinction and accomplishment, providing smart leadership on a range of issues of importance to the residents of the 38th District, Bergen County and the State of New Jersey,” said Senator Paul Sarlo (D-Bergen). “He was thoughtful and determined in his pursuit of the best policies and legislation. He will be missed in the Senate.”
