Mayor Davis Announces 2018 Road Infrastructure Improvement Plan

BAYONNE, NJ — Mayor Jimmy Davis is announcing the city’s 2018 Road Infrastructure Improvement Plan, which includes a major reconstruction of two sections of Broadway as well as new paving on several other city streets. Work is expected to begin in early April on Phase One of the project, which is being funded primarily by $1.1 million in grants from the New Jersey Department of Transportation. The Road Infrastructure Improvement Plan will complement the city’s existing Pothole Repair efforts, which has seen the Bayonne Department of Public Works fill over 4,000 potholes so far in 2018. 

“Over the last four years our team has worked to make needed investments in our city’s infrastructure, from revitalizing our parks and recreation facilities to upgrading sewer infrastructure, to improving our roads and transportation systems like we are doing now,” said Mayor Jimmy Davis. “Thanks to state grant funding we are able to make these necessary improvements without costing Bayonne taxpayers, and thanks to the $10 million in new tax revenue our economic redevelopment plans are generating we will be able to make many more upgrades over the next few years.”

 The 2018 Road Infrastructure Improvement Plan includes:

PHASE ONE:

 Broadway (between East 3rd Street and East 5th Street): Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers

 LaTourette Place: Full reconstruction of existing roadway,  installation ADA compliant handicap ramps

 Herrick Court: Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers

 West 40th Street (between Broadway and Avenue C):  Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers

LeFante Way : Full reconstruction of existing roadway,  installation drainage and curbing

– Miscellaneous Striping: Adding new roadway striping on various streets to improve traffic flow and safety

PHASE TWO:

– Avenue B (between West 48th and West 52nd streets): Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers

– Broadway (between West 10th and East 14th streets): Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers

– East 15th Street (between Avenue C and Avenue E): Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers, as well as installation of NJDEP approved flood reduction improvements

– East 23rd Street (between Prospect Avenue and Avenue F):  Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, resetting manhole covers

– West 23rd Street (between Avenue A and Kennedy Boulevard): Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers

– East 42nd Street (between Broadway and Avenue E): Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers, as well as installation of NJDEP approved flood reduction improvements

– George Street (between Lexington Avenue and Hobart Avenue):  Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers, as well as installation of NJDEP approved flood reduction improvements

– Public Lane (between West 16th Street and Parkside Lane): Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers

– Trask Avenue (between West 3rd and West 4th streets): Replacement of existing asphalt road surface, replacement of curbs and sidewalks to install ADA compliant handicap ramps, resetting manhole covers
