Lance Announces 2018 Congressional Art Contest

FLEMINGTON, NJ — Congressman Leonard Lance (NJ-7) today announced the guidelines for the 2018 Congressional Art Contest. The annual competition is open to all high school students who reside in New Jersey’s Seventh Congressional District.

I invite all high school students in the Seventh Congressional District to participate in the 2018 Congressional Art Contest.  The Congressional Art Contest is an exciting opportunity for young artists to highlight their creative talents.  Last year, over 100 students participated in this chance to have their work proudly displayed in the U.S. Capitol Complex.  I look forward to again being impressed by the abilities of each participant.  I encourage all aspiring young artists to enter this year’s contest,” said Lance, the current Republican Chair of the Congressional Arts Caucus and Congressional Humanities Caucus and past chair of the annual national contest.

Lance’s contest is free and open to all high school students in grades 9 through 12 who reside in the Seventh Congressional District of New Jersey.   All artwork must be original in concept, design and execution and meet the guidelines outlined by the Congressional Institute.

The Congressional Art Contest began in 1982 to provide an opportunity for members of Congress to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of their young constituents.  Since that time more than 650,000 high school students have been involved in the competition.  The winning art work will hang in a corridor in the United States Capitol Building for one year along with art from similar art contests held in congressional districts across the country.  The winner will have the opportunity to travel to Washington, D.C. and see the art on display during a special ceremony.

All artwork must be submitted by Thursday, March 29th to one of Lance’s New Jersey offices: 425 North Avenue East, Westfield, New Jersey 07090 or 361 Route 31, Suite 1400, Flemington, New Jersey, 08822.

Winners will be announced on Saturday, April 7, 2018 at a special ceremony held at Merck located at 2000 Galloping Hill Rd, Kenilworth, NJ 07033. The winning pieces of artwork will be showcased in the U.S. Capitol for one year with other winners from across the country.
