Mike Bloomberg has picked up another New Jersey endorsement with former State Sen. Colin Bell (D-Margate) signing up as a supporter of his bid for the Democratic presidential nomination.

“Mike Bloomberg is the best candidate to defeat Donald Trump.  Here in Atlantic County we know best how much damage Donald Trump can inflict on a community and our nation,” Bell said. “To defeat Trump, we need a candidate who has taken on the tough fights and won because the stakes have never been higher.”

Bell is a former Atlantic County freeholder who served briefly in the State Senate in 2017.  He won a special election convention following the death of James Whelan (D-Atlantic City), but lost the general election to Republican Chris Brown (R-Ventnor).

In his endorsement, Bell praised Bloomberg’s willingness to fight the National Rifle Association and his record on creating jobs.

“Mike took on the NRA and won reforms to reduce gun violence, while we faced slow job recovery from the great recession in Atlantic County, Mike led the way as Mayor of New York City creating over 500,000 jobs, the strongest economic recovery in the nation, Bell said.  “

Bell also took a shot at front runner Bernie Sanders, saying that the Vermont senator “voted against common sense gun safety.”

“Colin Bell is a respected South Jersey voice who took on critical economic growth initiatives for Atlantic County and was a leader fighting for reform in county government, said Michael Muller, the Bloomberg New Jersey state director. “We are excited that he endorsed Mike Bloomberg as the campaign builds tremendous momentum in South Jersey.”
