Two New Jersey state senators from Monmouth County, Republican Declan O’Scanlon (R-Little Silver) and Vin Gopal (D-Long Branch), guest hosted the New Jersey Globe Power Hour on Talk Radio 77 WABC on Saturday, February 19 at 4 PM while David Wildstein took the weekend off.
Joining O’Scanlon and Gopal were former State Sen. Joseph Kyrillos (R-Middletown) and New Jersey Globe political reporter Joey Fox.
O’Scanlon is the Republican Budget Officer of the New Jersey State Senate. He served five terms in the New Jersey State Assembly before winning election to the Senate in 2017, representing the 13th legislative district. He was re-elected in 2021. Prior to his election to the legislature, O’Scanlon served on the Little Silver Borough Council.
Gopal, a Democrat, is the Senate Majority Conference Leader and the chairman of the Senate Education Committee. He was elected to the Senate in 2017, defeating a three-term incumbent to win the 11th legislative district Senate seat. He won a second term last year. Gopal is a former Monmouth County Democratic Chairman.
Kyrillos served in the New Jersey State Assembly from 1988 to 1992 and in the State Senate from 1992 to 2018, when his retirement paved the way for O’Scanlon’s election. He is a former New Jersey Republican State Chairman and was the GOP nominee for U.S. Senate in 2012.
Fox is a staff reporter at the New Jersey Globe. He’s a graduate of Williams College, where he was managing editor of the Williams Record, and previously worked as a reporting intern at Gotham Gazette. While at the Record, Fox won the Society of Professional Journalists Award for Best Feature Writing (Northeast) and was a finalist for the national award. His hobby – which now bears a striking resemblance to his real job – is making Wikipedia pages for elected officials and state legislative districts.
