Murphy says Northam must go

Calls yearbook photos ‘disqualifying’

By David Wildstein, February 01 2019 9:06 pm

Gov. Phil Murphy called on Virginia Gov. Ralph Northam  to resign tonight, saying that 35-year-old racist photos that emerged today from the Virginian’s medical school yearbook are “disqualifying.”

“I don’t see that the governor’s got any other choice but to step down,” Murphy said in an appearance on MSNBC’s All In with Chris Hayes.

The photo shows Northam and another person in costume — one wearing blackface and then other in a Ku Klux Klan robe and hood.  Northam has admitted that one of the people in the photo is him and has apologized.

Murphy is set to assume the chairmanship of the Democratic Governor’s Association in 2019.
