More New Jerseyans are landing a top job in Joe Biden’s White House.
Former Keansburg Democratic Municipal Chairman John McCarthy was named today as the Senior Advisor to the Counselor to the President, working in the office of White House Chief of Staff-designate Ron Klain.
McCarthy began his political career in Monmouth County Democratic politics. He is a former aide to House Energy & Commerce Committee Chairman Frank Pallone, Jr. (D-Long Branch) and played an early role in the election of Vin Gopal as the Democratic County Chairman in 2012.
He served as deputy national political director of the Biden campaign in the primary and general elections.
“John is making Monmouth County, our party and our country so proud,” Gopal said. “As Senior Advisor to the Counselor to the President, John will serve President Biden and his team well.”
McCarthy was one of eight top staff positions announced today by the president-elect.
Biden also named Sarah Feldman, who spent part of her childhood in Montclair, as chief of staff for the Office of Management and Administration.
“These individuals are part of a White House staff that is ready to build back better immediately to make a difference in the lives of working families,” Biden said in a statement today. “They are accomplished public servants who will be instrumental in ensuring that our White House is efficient and effective in delivering for the American people.”
McCarthy served as chief of staff to Rep. Brendan Boyle (D-Pennsylvania), as Director of Faith and Heritage Community engagement at Hillary for America, National Co-Chair of Catholics for Obama-Biden in 2012, vice president of Irish American Democrats.
Biden has already named several top White House staffers with ties to New Jersey.
Justin Dews, a former senior counsel to Gov. Phil Murphy, was named Deputy Associate Counsel. Tona Boyd, a former chief counsel to U.S. Senator Cory Booker, was named Special Counsel.
Louisa Terrell, a former Booker chief of staff, will serve as director of the Office of Legislative Affairs. Chris Slevin, who began his political career working for then-West Orange Mayor John McKeon in 2000 and later served as Booker’s legislative director from 2014 to 2018, will be Biden’s deputy director legislative affairs.
Sabrina Singh, who served as National Press Secretary for Booker’s 2020 presidential run, was named Deputy Press Secretary to the Vice President.
