Shlomo Z. Schorr, a smart, razor-focused journalist who dominated local news coverage in Lakewood over the last  few years working for the Lakewood Shopper, Mishpacha Magazine, and the Lakewood Scoop, is leaving journalism to join an U.S. organization that represents Haredi Orthodox Jews.

Schoor will serve as associate director of the New Jersey office of Agudath Israel of America, he announced in a tweet this afternoon.   He begins his new position tomorrow.

The departure of the 30-year-old Schoor from the New Jersey press corps is a devastating blow for a region of the state that has seen local media decimated in recent years.

Schoor had a byline in the New York Times in November after reporting on a threat to New Jersey synagogues reported the Federal Bureau of Investigation.   He also participated in a 2022 New Jersey Globe livestream event on the return of George Gilmore as the Ocean County GOP chairman.
