Rep. Bonnie Watson Coleman (D-Ewing) has endorsed Sam Joshi for Edison mayor in the Democratic primary.
“As a former Democratic State Committee chairwoman and now a Member of Congress, I well know the values of our Democratic Party,” Watson Coleman said. “In the Edison mayoral race, there is only one candidate with the dedication to diversity and inclusion that will help the township heal from the recent divisive tactics that sought to split its community apart.”
Joshi, a 31-year-old councilman, faces Democratic Municipal Chairman Mahesh Bhagia in the June primary election.
Middlesex County Democrats, concerned about a grandy jury probe of a 2017 racist flyer – one councilman has implicated Bhagia as the ringleader — endorsed Joshi this week.
“Only Sam Joshi has the skills to unify Edison and that is why I am proud to endorse him and his council candidates in this June’s Democratic primary,” Watson Coleman said.
In additional to Watson Coleman, Joshi has picked up endorsements from Gov. Phil Murphy, U.S. Senators Bob Menendez and Cory Booker, Senate President Steve Sweeney, Assembly Speaker Craig Coughlin, Rep. Frank Pallone (D-Long Branch), and Middlesex County Democratic Chairman Kevin McCabe.
