Rahway Democratic Municipal Chair Kevin O’Brien endorsed State Sen. Nicholas Scutari Saturday.

“The time is now to unify the party,” O’Brien said. “The time is now to come together for the benefit of the Democrats we represent. I wholeheartedly believe Senator Scutari will continue to unify this party. I call on all Democratic Chairs of Union County to leave differences aside, come together, and stand behind Senator Scutari for the sake of the party”

Scutari is currently unopposed in his bid for another year as Union County Democratic Chairman.

Supporters of Union County Democratic vice-chair Colleen Mahr have told the New Jersey Globe that Mahr, who is mayor of Fanwood, is considering challenging Scutari again.

Mahr has not yet announced her intentions.

In a special election last February, Scutari won the chairmanship over Mahr in a 412 to 341 vote.

Two municipal chairs that backed Mahr in that race recently endorsed Scutari.

“There is no Democratic community without unity. Today’s endorsements of Chairman Scutari by Hillside Chair Salters and Winfield Chair McManus show that they are also calling for unity of the party,” O’Brien said. “We have a lot of work ahead of us with the upcoming presidential election in 2020. We will accomplish much more when we become whole again.”

The vote is set for Tuesday evening in Union, when the party holds its biannual reorganization meeting.
