Selen up nearly 8,000 votes in Morris freeholder race

Amaro held 7,617-vote lead on election night

Incumbent Republican Tayfun Selen now leads Democrat Cary Amaro by 7,948 votes in a race to hold his seat on the Morris County Board of Freeholders.

Selen now leads Amaro, 128,720 to 120,772, 51.6% to 38.4%.

On election night, Amaro was 7,617 votes ahead.

There are about 40,000 additional ballots to be counted in Morris County.

Democrats have not won a countywide election in Morris since 1973, when Douglas Romaine won an upset victory in a race for freeholder.  He lost re-election in 1976.
