West New York Mayor Felix Roque, seeking re-election to a third term in the May non-partisan municipal elections, has field an ethics complaint against Michael Jimenez, the municipal attorney and acting administrator, alleging violations of conflict of interests rules.
Roque says that state law prohibits a town attorney from holding both positions.
The mayor says his objections have been ignored by three commissioners who are running against him: Gabriel Rodriguez, Cosmo Cirillo and Margarita Guzman.
“There is absolutely no question that the Town needs ongoing independent advice from the town attorney regarding personnel practices and contract administration,” Roque said. “Mr. Jimenez has demonstrated that he is not focused on serving the Town’s interests by providing independent legal advice but is driven by political motives.”Felix Roque WNY ethics complaint and opinion
