Paul Juliano was elected Bergen County Democratic Chairman tonight without opposition, immediately making the longtime party insider one of the most powerful political leaders in the state.
Juliano succeeds Louis Stellato, who resigned in June following his confirmation as a Commissioner of the New Jersey Sports and Exposition Authority. He will complete the remainder of Stellato’s term in June 2020.
Gov. Phil Murphy, Democratic State Chairman John Currie, and several other county chairs, including LeRoy Jones, Jr. of Essex, Kevin McCabe of Middlesex and Amy DeGise of Hudson, attended Juliano’s election tonight.
Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg (D-Teaneck), Senate Budget and Appropriations Committee Chairman Paul Sarlo (D-Wood-Ridge), State Sen. Joseph Lagana, and Bergen County Executive James Tedesco also joined Juliano for his election.
Juliano, the Fairview Public Works Director, became the clear front-runner when Mahwah Democratic Municipal Chairman Todd Scherer announced that he would not be a candidate and would support Juliano.
Congratulations Paul!!! With your leadership Bergen County is sure to become a County that is “true blue” and inclusive and transparent. A County to be reckoned with for sure. I’m proud to call you a friend.
