The Paterson teachers’ union has endorsed Andre Sayegh for Mayor in the May 8 non-partisan election.

Sayegh was the choice for mayor after a three-day screening process last month, when a seven-member panel voted to endorse him.

The Professionals for Effective Action Political Committee, the independent political action committee of the Paterson Education Association (PEA), has also endorsed incumbent Councilwoman Maritza Davila, Lilisa Mimms and Zellie Thomas for the three At-Large City Council seats.

Mimms is a former Paterson school board member, Thomas is an elementary school teacher, and Davila is the assistant director of admissions at Passaic County Community College.

“The Paterson Education Association is proud to endorse these candidates because each shares a vision for strong public schools,” said union president John McEntee. “Our association and its members look forward to partnering with each of them for the betterment of the city of Paterson, all of its citizens, and the students that we serve in the Paterson Public School District.”
