New book to examine Kenneth Gibson’s legacy

A new book will examine the legacy of Newark’s first black mayor.

Kenneth Gibson, elected as the city’s first black mayor in 1970, presided in a troubled era.

Rutgers professor Robert Holmes and Richard Roper, the book’s authors will host a booker talk and reception next Wednesday.

Holmes is a clinical professor of Law at Rutgers, and Roper is a visiting associate at the Eagleton Institute of Politics.
