Gov. Phil Murphy is taking sides in the Democratic primary for Atlantic County Clerk, endorsing Lisa Jiampetti in the June 8 primary election.
“As a three-term mayor of Egg Harbor City, Lisa Jiampetti has earned the reputation of a driven, forward-looking leader who puts the interests of her constituents first and has never settled for the status quo,” said Murphy. “Whether it’s overseeing the construction of new schools, attracting small businesses, or developing recreational services, Lisa’s efforts have meaningfully improved the lives of working families in her community.”
Jiampetti, who is running on the organization line, faces a primary challenge from Mico Lucide. She defeated Lucide at the Atlantic County Democratic Convention in March by a 63%-37% margin.
“I have no doubt that Lisa will bring the passion and uncompromised service she’s demonstrated throughout her career to county government, and I’m thrilled to endorse her candidacy for Atlantic County Clerk,” Murphy said.
The incumbent, Edward McGettigan, is not seeking re-election.
In the District 4 freeholder race, McGettigan admitted to mailing the wrong ballots to 554 voters in a race for county commissioner that turned out to be decided by just 286 votes.
As a result, Superior Court Judge Joseph Marczyk tossed the entire election and mandated a do-over.
