Morris County Republicans have decided that losing money – or barely breaking even – on fundraising is a good idea.
GOP county chairman Ron DeFilippis announced at a closed-door meeting this morning that they are in the process of signing up a bunch of “celebrities” to appear at their 2019 fundraising events – for a fee.
Among the group of names touted today: Lynette Hardaway and Rochelle Richardson, social media personalities known as Diamond and Silk; conservative commentators Katie Pavlich and Tomi Lahren; and Fox News personality Jeanine Pirro.
Pirro charged the New Jersey Republican State Committee $15,000 her appearance last year.
In 2018, Morris County Republicans lost money on a fundraising event that featured Fox News personality Greg Gutfeld at the Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster. Gutfeld charged $30,000 for his appearance, plus expenses, according to reports filed with the New Jersey Election Law Enforcement Commission.
The county GOP raised $179,003 in 2018, but high overhead burned their cash. They reported contributing just $6,300 to Republican candidates during the final quarter of the 2018 campaign.
The organization reported spending $6,702 on lawn signs that carried the names of their countywide candidates, and $22,638 on a mailing.
Morris Republicans reported just small contributions in Morris Plains, Chatham and Morris Township, where Democrats picked up local seats.
The county organization continues to struggle financially, reporting just $16,017 in the bank as of the beginning of the year.
