North Bergen Mayor Nick Sacco decisively won re-election for his 10th term in office, defeating Larry Wainstein, his 2015 opponent for a second time, this time by a 37% Margin.

Winning 68.53% of the vote, Mayor Sacco won re-election and carried every voting district by at least 9.68%. Overall, he won by a margin that was larger than Wainstein’s overall vote share.

Sacco improved upon his 2015 margins in the 4th, 5th, 6th, and 7th, wards, which are in the southern portion of the town, and his best improvement, doing over 25% better then in 2015, occurred in Ward 6, voting district 3.

Wainstein hoped to win the 4th Ward, campaigning against a power plant opening nearby. Meanwhile, Wainstein made his biggest gains in the 1st, 2nd, and 3rd wards, but failed to keep his 2015 margins in the other wards, which resulted in his 2nd, and larger loss to Mayor Sacco. Sacco ran up the margins in districts 4 and 5, which represented his best improvements from his 2015 campaign.
