Michael Miles will challenge Vito Perillo for the mayorship of Tinton Falls, he announced Friday.

“Many residents and local businesses have encouraged me to run,” Miles said. “They all echo similar concerns and are looking for leadership, accountability and open communications in the municipal government.”

At 97, Perillo is one of America’s oldest mayors. He could be more than 100 years old at the end of a second mayoral term. A veteran of World War II, Perillo was first elected in 2017

Miles and his running mates, Fatima Urciolo and Julio Seda, have the backing of Tinton Falls School Board President Fred Lomangino.

“The taxpayers of Tinton Falls need to know what their leaders are doing, why they are doing it, and how it will benefit the community,” Urciolo said. “It all starts with open and honest communication.”
