Lawrence Councilwoman Cathleen Lewis and Elvin Montero, a top advisor to Trenton Mayor Reed Gusciora, have advanced to a 3rd ballot at the Mercer County Democratic Convention tonight for an open county commissioner seat.

Lewis, a former mayor,  led the 2nd round voting with 186 votes (47.4%), just short of the 50% needed to win the organization line.  Montero, who is seeking to become the first Hispanic countywide officeholder in Mercer history, finished second with 110 votes (28.1%).

Former Princeton Democratic Municipal Chairman John Durbin was eliminated after receiving 96 votes (24.5%).

The two are seeking the seat of Commissioner Andrew Koontz, who is not seeking re-election.

Another incumbent, Nina Melker, won the convention on the 1st ballot.

Lewis picked up 30 votes on the 2nd ballot, while Montero increased by 10 and Durbin went up by 13.
