A judge has ordered a recount in Rochelle Park, where just four votes separate the apparent winner, Democrat Michael Warren, from Republican Perrin Mosca.
Judge Estela De La Cruz set a hand count of all ballots for December 8 and ordered election officials to allow both candidates to examine and copy all aspects of the balloting, something that sets up a possible legal challenge to the outcome of the race either way.
The race for two township committee seats was close.
Incumbent Democrat Linda Boniface received 1,544 votes, followed by Warren at 1,543. Mosca received 1,539 votes, and his GOP running mate, Delmer Thomas Grigsby, Jr., got 1,499 votes.
Republicans have a 3-2 majority on the township committee. Democrat Marc Vojnovich did not seek re-election.
