Johnson seeks reinstatement to Piscataway school board

A state Administrative Law Judge will hear an appeal by Ralph Johnson on his removal from the Piscataway Board of Education last month.

Johnson was removed after allegedly missing three consecutive meetings.  He maintains his absence was directly related to his post as an Essex County Corrections officer.

“The Board’s actions reek of impropriety and political retribution. Taking advantage of a global public health crisis and state of emergency to initiate removal proceedings is nothing short of shameful in the midst of a pandemic and other extraordinary circumstances,” the petition seeking his reinstatement states.

Johnson was removed on July 9, two days after he lost the Democratic primary for township council.

“Rather than thank Johnson for his work as an essential worker — putting his health and the health of his family on the line so that he can continue to be of service to New Jersey residents — the Board has turned around to oust him without a reasonable basis in furtherance of their political motives and outside of the best interests of the school board which Johnson has honorably served for over six years and been elected to three times,” the petition says.
