Incumbent School Board slate wins in Newark

Two Newark School Board incumbents and their running mate handed a slate of three challengers a landslide defeat Tuesday.

School Board members Josephine Garcia and Flohisha Johnson won 4,942 and 4,620 votes respectively.

Hasani Council, their running mate, received 4,386 votes.

The challenger slate’s Sheila Montague received at 1,640 votes, while Ronnie Kellam and Phillip Wilson, the slate’s two other members failed to break the 1,000-vote mark.

Wilson got 978 votes, while Kellam had just 799 ballots cast in his name.
