Hurley: Small will get organization line

Atlantic City Mayor Marty Small, Sr. will run on the county Democratic organization line in the June 8 primary regardless of who the local party endorses, county chairman Michael Sulieman said today.

The story was first reported by WPG Talk Radio host Harry Hurley.

Small will be on the line with Gov. Phil Murphy, State Senate candidate Vince Mazzeo, and the rest of the Atlantic County Democratic slate.  So will Small’s city council be running mates, George Tibbitt, Stephanie Marshall and Bruce Weekes. Jr.

“It will be very difficult for incumbents (Mo) Delgado and (Jeffree) Faunleroy to retain their seats off the line,” Hurley said.

Suleiman accused the de facto leader of the Atlantic City Democrats, former Council President Craig Callaway, of signing up to work for Republican State Senate candidate Vince Polistina.

“If Mr. Callaway truly wants to be an “independent consultant,’ then he should register as ‘Unaffiliated’; and work for whoever he wants to. However, he wants to control the Democratic Committee in Atlantic City while at the same time openly opposing Democratic candidates from Governor Murphy on down–all because of his ‘paid work,’” Suleiman said.  “Expecting me to support his hand-picked municipal candidates while he continues to work for Trump Republicans is laughable.”

Party-switching Rep. Jeff Van Drew (R-Dennis) used Callaway to secure his 2020 re-election campaign.
