Democratic leads hold in Scotch Plains

Update: Union County released new vote tallies at 4 p.m. Tuesday. The new count shrunk Losardo’s lead to 742 votes. He’s now ahead of Smith 6,772-6,030. Zimmerman’s lead is now 1,570 votes. Spera has 5,567 votes. The Democrat has 7,137.

Scotch Plains Deputy Mayor Josh Losardo continues to hold a sizeable lead over Republican Mayor Al Smith.

Losardo is up 987 votes over smith, giving him a margin of 54%-46%. His lead has diminished somewhat since election day, when he led the incumbent Mayor by 1,274 votes.

The Democrat’s running mate, social worker Ellen Zimmerman, has also maintained her lead over Councilman Ted Spera. She’s 1,756 votes ahead of the incumbent, leading about 58%-42%.

On election day, she led by 1,871 votes.
