Tom Crone was elected Camden County Republican Chairman on Tuesday, defeating Nicole Nance by a vote of 59 to 42.

He will replace Richard Ambrosino, who did not seek re-election after five years as county chairman.

Ambrosino had endorsed Crone, his former executive director and the campaign manager for Ian Smith’s recent bid for the Republican gubernatorial nomination in New Jersey’s 3rd district.

Crone also won the endorsements of Jack Ciattarelli, the nearly-successful Republican candidate for governor in 2021.  Ciattarelli credited Ambrosino and Crone for GOP local  victories in Clementon and Winslow and building local party organizations from scratch in Gloucester City, Barrington and Bellmawr.

“Tom Crone will provide a seamless transition in leadership and he has earned the right to finish what he started with Ambrosino,” Ciattarelli said in his endorsement statement.

Nance, who lost races for Camden County freeholder in 2020 and Cherry Hill township council in 2021, faced criticism for her endorsement of an independent candidate for Congress in New Jersey’s 1st district against the Republican nominee, former Collingswood school board member Claire Gustafson.

Ambrosino won a February 2017 special election for county chairman to replace Thomas Booth, Jr.  Booth had resigned to become a Superior Court Judge.
