Coyle endorses Joshi in Edison

A Democratic councilman from Edison who had not yet taken sides in the race for mayor has now endorsed Sam Joshi for the post.

“I am endorsing Sam Joshi for Mayor in this upcoming election,” said Councilman Joe Coyle.
“I believe that Sam Joshi has the experience, skillset, vision, and leadership to ensure that our community remains safe, is fiscally responsible, and is best prepared to maximize the positive opportunities that await us.”

Coyle never officially endorsed anyone in the Democratic mayoral primary, when Joshi defeated Edison Democratic Municipal Chair Mahesh Bhagia.

But when Coyle had sought a vacant 18th district State Assembly seat earlier this year, he received the support of county committee members allied with Bhagia.

Coyle’s endorsement follows one from Edison Mayor Thomas Lankey, who dropped his own independent re-election bid to support Joshi.

Joshi faces Republican Keith Hahn and independent Richard Brescher, a Democratic councilman with little apparent support.
