Freeholder thinks mayor downplaying city’s COVID-19 cases

Passaic County Freeholder TJ Best has had it with Paterson Mayor Andre Sayegh.

Best made two Facebook posts containing harsh criticisms of the mayor over comments he made on national television defending Paterson’s response to the COVID-19 crisis.

Initially, Best made a post challenging Sayegh’s televised claim that the city had kept its COVID cases down to roughly 2,500. The freeholder, who also serves as one of three state monitors overseeing the city’s retaking control of its schools, claimed that number was more than 6,000.

In a second since-deleted post, Best savaged the mayor, calling him a “punk” and a “self-serving, credit-seeking slimy coward.”

“Correction, the mayor of the city of Paterson Andre Sayegh is a self serving, credit seeking slimy coward. Because we are facing a pandemic I’ve tried my best to not be too critical or let my personal feelings get involved,” Best said in the second post. “The truth is Andre Sayegh is a punk, he will do or say anything to serve himself. He is out of touch with the reality of City residents and if he has a problem with anything I said I gave him my address he can come see me or we can meet anywhere he likes.”

Best’s posts were first reported by the Paterson Times.
