Lucide’s petitions survive a challenge

Atlantic County Clerk candidate Mico Lucide can remain on the ballot after a petition challenge filed by the Atlantic County Democratic Committee, Deputy County Clerk Michael Sommers said.

Michael Suleiman, the county’s Democratic chairman, filed a challenge to Lucide’s petitions on April 7, charging at least 16 of the 111 signatures the off-the-line candidates submitted were invalid.

Sommers eliminated signatures provided by five voters on grounds they signed more than one petition for the same office and invalidated a duplicate signature provided by a voter who signed Lucide’s petitions once digitally and once physically.

Ten other challenged signatures were found to be valid, but a review of other signatures provided by the challenger found two that could be disqualified.

The final decision left Lucide with 103 valid signatures, three more than is needed to run.

Lucide is running against former Egg Harbor City Mayor Lisa Jiampetti, who is county Democrats’ pick to replace Clerk Ed McGettigan, who is not seeking re-election.
