Senate Majority Leader Loretta Weinberg on Friday endorsed Assembly candidates Lisa Bhimani and Darcy Draeger.

“I’m looking forward to being able to publicly endorse Lisa and Darcy,” Weinberg said. “I think that their voices and the kind of expertise that they would bring to the legislature, not only as women but as professional women, is very important, and I hope to be able to help them get there.”

The two candidates are running to unseat Assemblyman Anthony Bucco, whose running mate has yet to be determined.

Assemblyman Michael Patrick Carroll is not seeking reelection to his seat in the 25th legislative district and is instead running for Morris County Surrogate.

It remains to be seen how much Draeger and Bhimani will benefit from the endorsement, but it means a lot to the two of them.

Bhimani said Weinberg is one of her heroes and said she might be the senator’s biggest fan. Draeger was similarly enthused.

“Sen. Weinberg is a leader in New Jersey, and I am honored to have her support,” she said.
