Michael Dailey and Mauro Tucci, Jr., the son of the Nutley commissioner of the same name, will challenge Assemblyman John McKeon (D-West Orange) and Assemblywoman Mila Jasey (D-South Orange) in November.

Nominating petitions for the two were filed by a representative of the New Jersey State Republican Committee late Monday morning.

The two are the only Republican candidates to have filed in the district, and their filer is an that the state party will back them in their bid to win seats Republicans haven’t controlled in almost four decades.

State Sen. Dick Codey (R-Roseland), a former governor, has held the district’s seat in the upper chamber since then.

The core of the current 27th was created in 2001 when West Orange and East Orange were separated after 28 years and the West Orange part moved into the West Essex and Morris County suburbs.
