Morris County Freeholder Deborah Smith will not be a candidate for State Assembly in next week’s special election convention and has endorsed Sarah Neibart for the post.
“I fully support Sarah because she’s the one who can win in November,” Smith told the New Jersey Globe.
Neibart, the deputy mayor of Mendham Township, announced her bid for Anthony Bucco’s vacant 25th district Assembly seat last night.
She joins former Frelinghuysen district director Aura Dunn, Assistant Morris County Counsel John Barbarula, and Morristown Councilwoman Alison Deeb, and Pfizer executive Al Ribeiro in the race.
County Committee members from the Morris and Somerset county municipalities in the district will meet on November 21 to fill the remaining seven weeks of Bucco’s current term, which expires on January 13, 2020.
The filing deadline is today.
