Senate Majority Whip Troy Singleton wants the Transportation Committee to hold a hearing into New Jersey Transit’s delays and cancellations along the River Line.

“While New Jersey Transit assures us they are working to make the system more reliable, these cancellations are not an anomaly – this is the third summer we find ourselves in a position of demanding answers on service interruptions and statistics for on-time performance,” Singleton said.  “

The Burlington County Democrat noted that North Jersey transit lines have had issues this summer as well.

“The difference is that the River Line is the only rail service in South Jersey serving commuters in this region; there are no other alternatives for rerouting,” stated Singleton.

Singleton pointed out that after a 15% fare hike and a 2.5% corporate tax to help fund New Jersey Transit, commuters should not have to wake-up worrying and guessing whether their train will arrive on-time or even at all.”

“The poor service is simply inexcusable,” he said.
