Singleton, Conaway, Murphy win in the 7th district

The New Jersey Globe is projecting that State Sen. Troy Singleton (D-Delran), Assemblyman Herb Conaway (D-Moorestown), and Assemblywoman Carol Murphy (D-Mount Laurel) have won re-election to the 7th legislative district.

Singleton faced former Palmyra mayor Michelle Arnold, while Conaway and Murphy defeated retired Department of Transportation official Douglas Dillon and pharmacist Joseph Jesuele.

Then a four-term assemblyman, Singleton flipped the 7th district in 2017 when longtime moderate Republican State Sen. Diane Allen (R-Edgewater Park) retired from the legislature after more than 20 years.

Allen was back on the ticket this year as Jack Ciattarelli’s running mate, but her coattails weren’t nearly enough to lift Republicans in the now solidly blue 7th district, which covers the most Democratic and diverse municipalities of Burlington County.

Singleton was succeeded in the Assembly by Murphy, while Conaway has served since 1998, longer than Singleton and Murphy’s terms combined.

Final 7th district results:

Singleton 62.3% // Arnold 37.7%

Conaway 31.0%, Murphy 30.6% // Dillon 19.4%, Jesuele 19.1%
