State Sen. Declan O’Scanlon (R-Little Silver) slammed Gov. Phil Murphy for what he said were overly cautious closures at Motor Vehicle Commission locations where at least one state worker has tested positive for COVID-19.
“Supermarkets and stores like Lowe’s and Home Depot have hundreds of workers with hundreds more customers in their stores daily, yet they don’t shut down whole locations,” he said. “Somehow, the brain trust in Trenton has decided that this New Jersey agency is the only entity that must shut down for two weeks with every positive test.”
The senator’s comments came after the administration announced an MVC location in Eatontown would shutter its doors for two weeks after an employee returned a positive virus test.
He said MVC officials should be vaccinated by now, adding that guidelines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention do not require vaccinated individuals to quarantine after being exposed to COVID-19.
“We cannot continue to paralyze our facilities and operations because we have a few people in charge who are completely out of touch and terrified,” he said.
