Rep. Tom Malinowski is making rounds around Morris — and other places too.
The congressman was in Chester Saturday morning for a canvass launch at Chester Democratic Chairwoman Darcy Draeger’s farm.
“The stakes here are really, really big. We want to get some more people in Trenton who don’t just have a ‘D’ next to their name. That’s not really the main reason that I support this wonderful person here,” Malinowski said, gesturing to Draeger. “It’s getting people who are not career politicians, not multi-generation career politicians, but people who have been out there in the world raising families and working and advancing the issues we care about.”
Draeger and her running mate, Lisa Bhimani, are running for Assembly in the 25th district. They face State Sen. Anthony Bucco and Denville Councilman Brian Bergen.
Bucco succeeded his father in the legislature’s upper chamber last month after his father, late State Sen. Tony Bucco, died of a heart attack.
Bucco remains on the ballot but intends to decline the Assembly seat if he wins re-election.
“I’m running all around the district doing these canvass launches,” Malinowski said. “I’m campaigning for them. I’m doing stuff in LD21. I’m doing one of these in Hunterdon County.”
The congressman even intends to knock some doors himself.
“Just one canvass launch after another, and I’ll do some canvassing myself,” Malinowski said. “I’ve got a Diwali festival tonight in Westfield, which will be a lot of fun … This is the life. There’s so much going on right now. I often find myself getting through the day and looking at my schedule for the next day and getting mentally prepared for whatever I have to do.”
