Assemblywoman Yvonne Lopez (D-Perth Amboy) has “absolutely no interest” in challenging Perth Amboy Mayor Wilda Diaz in 2020.

“I’m not going to be running against her. I like what I do. I love being a legislator, and I enjoy passing legislation, passing good laws. I like working with my colleagues in the assembly. I have absolutely no interest,” Lopez said, adding that she had been approached by those seeking a challenger to Diaz.

Diaz is at the center of a growing feud between Perth Amboy Democrats.

The mayor backed a slate of insurgents to challenge incumbent city council members in 2018.

Helmin Caba, a councilman who serves as Perth Amboy Democratic municipal chairman, blasted Diaz for attacks on Council President William Petrick.
