Six Hudson County Democratic legislators have endorsed Craig Coughlin for re-election to a third term as Speaker of the New Jersey State Assembly.

Assembly Majority Whip Nicholas Chiaravalloti (D-Bayonne), Judiciary Committee Chairman Raj Mukherji (D-Jersey City), Assemblywomen Angela McKnight (D-Jersey City), Annette Chaparro (D-Hoboken) and Angelica Jimenez (D-West New York), and Assemblyman Pedro Mejia (D-Secaucus) becomes the fourth county to public endorse Coughlin.

“If we are fortunate enough to be re-elected, we are committed to supporting Craig Coughlin for another term as Speaker,” the six legislators said.  “His open, transparent, and collaborative leadership style has made him a strong partner in our fight for Hudson County.”

Coughlin, who ousted a Hudson County Democrat as speaker after the 2017 election, has already secured enough votes to keep his post until at least January 2024.

He received the backing of Bergen and South Jersey Democrats on Thursday, and Monmouth Democrats this morning.
