Freiman, Jaffer win Mercer Democratic endorsement for Assembly

Mercer County Democrats voted to award their organization line for State Assembly in the 16th district to Roy Freiman and Sadaf Jaffer.

Freiman, a Hillsborough Democrat, is seeking re-election to a third term in the legislature.   Jaffer, the former mayor of Montgomery, is seeking the seat Andrew Zwicker (D-South Brunswick) is giving up running for State Senate.

Freiman and Jaffer defeated Dr. Chris Fistonich, a Yale-educated PhD immunologist, cybersecurity analyst and opera singer, and Faris Zwirahn, an instructor of Near Eastern Studies at Princeton University.

Jaffer received 25 votes, with 23 for Freiman, 15 for Fistonich and 3 for Zwirahn.

Princeton Councilwoman Michelle Pirone Lambros dropped out of the race after the Princeton Community Democratic Organization endorsed Freiman and Jaffer.

Democratic organization lines in Middlesex, Hunterdon and Somerset counties – and the endorsement of Gov. Phil Murphy — have also gone to Freiman and Jaffer.
