Clean Water Action, a New Jersey environmental advocacy group, has endorsed Laura Fortgang and Christine Clarke for State Assembly in the 26th district.
The two Democrats are challenging incumbents Jay Webber (R-Morris Plains) and Betty Lou DeCroce (R-Parsippany) in the Morris-Essex district.
“Christine Clarke and Laura Fortgang are independent thinkers who have fresh ideas for Trenton and are committed to protecting our environment, communities, and public health,” Clean Water Action said in a press release. “They are the leaders that we need in Trenton. We believe they will put our communities first.”
The group cited Fortgang and Clarke’s support for passing a New Jersey Constitutional “Green” Amendment and a statewide ban on single-use plastic bags.
Clean Water action gave DeCroce a 4% score in the last legislative session; Webber was at 13%.
Fortgang is the Verona Democratic Municipal Chair and Clarke is the Democratic Municipal Chair in Jefferson.
The 26th has not elected a Democrat to the Legislature since John Sinsimer won in the 1973 Watergate landslide.
