Mitchelle Drulis, until recently the district director for former Rep. Tom Malinowski (D-Ringoes), today won the Mercer County Democratic organizational line uncontested for an open Assembly seat in the 16th legislative district.
The victory is just the latest on Drulis’ path to succeeding Assemblywoman Sadaf Jaffer (D-Montgomery); she already has the Democratic line in Hunterdon County, and has no declared opponents in either of the district’s two remaining counties, Somerset and Middlesex.
“Thank you to the Mercer County Democratic Committee, Chairwoman Janice Mironov, Princeton Democratic Municipal Committee Chair Owen O’Donnell, and the countless Mercer Democrats who have supported me thus far,” Drulis said in a statement. “I look forward to fighting for Princeton and Mercer County in the state legislature when elected this November.”
Drulis is set to join the Democratic ticket alongside State Sen. Andrew Zwicker (D-South Brunswick) and Assemblyman Roy Freiman (D-Hillsborough) in the 16th district, which could host a competitive race this year.
Also winning today’s convention unopposed were three legislative incumbents in the 15th district, two county commissioners, State Sen. Linda Greenstein (D-Plainsboro), and Sheriff Jack Kemler.
