There’s a new poll in the field in Atlantic County to see how former County Commissioner Frank Formica might fare as a Democrat in a race against State Sen. Vince Polistina (R-Egg Harbor Township), but that election isn’t going to happen.
“I have no idea who’s polling me and for what reason,” Formica told the New Jersey Globe. “Nobody has approached me. I’m just figuring out how to get off of the merry-go-round.”
Formica made it clear he has no intention of running against Polistina.
Democrats still don’t have a Senate candidate to take on Polistina, who defeated Assemblyman Vince Mazzeo (D-Northfield) in 2021 with 52% of the vote. The county convention is set for March 19.
Formica spent more than a decade in county government as a Republican before resigning in 2020 to become Atlantic County’s shared services coordinator and to spend more time on his family-owned bakery business.
In 2022, the family of Democratic powerbroker George Norcross purchased the Formica Bakery, a hugely recognizable brand in South Jersey that bakes the rolls for the iconic White House Sub Shop in Atlantic City. The company has now been renamed the Formica Freitag Bakery to honor Norcross’ great-grandfather, who founded a Camden bakery in the 1890s. Formica now serves as general manager of the rapidly expanding company.
Last week, the New Jersey Globe reported that South Jersey Democrats have put a poll in the field testing former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Ron Jaworski as the Democratic State Senate candidate in the 8th district.
